Many people in India have been found that a Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) number appearing on their Smartphone’s on 3 August 2018. All users are confused about this matter. But hours later, UIDAI responded to the incident. They denied forcing of any Smartphone manufacturer or telecom service provider to add a helpline number to their device.
In fact, Google has accepted that in 2014 it inadvertently coded the 112 distress number and the UIDAI number into its setup wizard for Android.
However, this confession made the Smartphone user to clear their confusion about how the helpline number feed on their mobiles.
On Friday, Google has stated that “Our internal review has revealed that in 2014, then UIDAI helpline number and the 112 distress helpline number were inadvertently coded into the SetUp wizard of the Android release given to OEMs for use in India and has remained there since. Since the numbers get listed on a user’s contact list these get transferred accordingly to the contacts on any new device”.
And the spokesperson also said that to assure the users “that is not a situation of an unauthorized access of their Android devices”. It means that the users can delete the number manually from their Smartphone’s.
The company said that it will work to fix the issue and “upcoming release of SetUp wizard which will be made available to OEMs over the next few weeks”.
Even though one question is still passed in social networks that how the Android Smartphone’s crept the helpline number without concerning UIDAI.
Finally, UIDAI said that they didn’t ask any handset makers or telecom service providers to add its toll-free number on Smartphones. “The number 1800-300-1947 which has been appearing in the contact list of some mobiles was an invalid and outdated helpline number” UIDAI clarified.
