 S S Thaman is a music director and composer , who predominantly works in Telugu , Tamil & kannada  films in India. Thaman entered the film industry as an actor in a supporting role in the Shankar’s film Boys.

He was born on 16th nov 1983, Andhra PradeshIndia into a Telugu Brahmin family

He was a grand son of Ghantasala Balaramayya, director and producer, known for producing the Telugu film Seetarama Jananam,

His father Ghantasala Siva Kumar was a Drummer, who worked for seven hundred films, under composer, K. Chakravarthy. His mother Ghantasala Savitri is a playback singer. His wife Sri Vardhini is also a Play back singer

Thaman Journey with Music


At the age of eleven, he lost his dad. He share some very fond memories accompanying with his dad to musical programs. It is in this journey he realized that music runs in his veins.

He joined with S.P. Balasubramaniam, Ilaiyaraaja’s brother, and G. Anand as a rhythm pads player, and discontinued his studies.

Then he joined with  Raj-Koti team, and worked for three years on sixty films and then joined M. M. Keeravani and worked with him for three years completing thirty films.

He gained experience from composers like Vandemataram Srinivas, Chakri, R. P. Patnaik and Devi Sri Prasad. His first program in Chennai was Saadhaga Paravaigal. In that, he worked as a drummer.

He began his career as an actor in Tamil Film Boys and as a composer with the Tamil film Sindhanai Sei, while his first Telugu film was Kick in 2009. He owns a music band named Thakkali.

Aagadu in 2014 was Thaman’s 50th film as a music director.


He won five Best Music Director telugu Awards for Dookudu(SIIMA Award2011, Filmfare Awards 2011, Hyderabad Times Film Awards, MAA Music Awards 2011, TSR TV9 2011–2012)

He also won Best Male Playback Singer for “Sir Osthara” – Businessman (SIIMA Award 2012)
